December 23, 2011-- A big focus in Lansing this year has been improving the efficiency of state government. I'm proud of the progress we've made on this front and am also pleased that Secretary of State Ruth Johnson is working to make her offices more efficient as well. No one looks forward to standing in line at the Secretary of State to renew their driver's license or duplicate a vehicle registration, and until now there was no alternative for these necessary tasks. Recently, the Secretary of State introduced a new way to save time for people who need to use the department for standard, everyday services such as renewing license plates or changing addresses. The website, www.ExpressSoS.com is the new, no-wait Secretary of State online office, making simple SoS services available to Michigan residents from their home computers. The new system also allows the Secretary of State to save money by focusing limited resources on the tasks that require in-person customer service. Visa, MasterCard and Discover debit and credit cards are all accepted at ExpressSoS.com. The new website allows users to renew vehicle plates, driver's licenses and state IDs; change an address; replace driver's licenses and state IDs; duplicate vehicle titles and registrations; and other services. As the Legislature works to streamline state government and increase efficiency at all levels, I am excited to see the same efforts being made in the Secretary of State's office. We are making Michigan a great place to live and work one day at a time! * * * If you have any questions or need assistance with any state issues, please contact me toll free at 866-828-4863 or via e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
