JONATHAN CURREY GRADUATES FROM MEDICAL SCHOOL



Jonathan Currey, M.D. graduated from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine on May 9, 2010.

Jon was one of ten students in his class of 112 to be inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.  The students who were chosen “showed exceptional aptitude for compassion and competency in patient care, as well as being respectful and caring with colleagues.”

Jon will be moving to Duluth, Minnesota in June to complete a three-year Residency in Family Medicine at the University of Minnesota Hospitals.

FOWLERVILLE STUDENT RECEIVES AWARD FROM ALBION COLLEGE

Local student Steven Gadzinski received the John Wayne Stringer Award for Journalism during Albion College's annual Honors Convocation held earlier this month. The Albion College faculty and administration choose recipients for these awards from among the most exemplary students in all academic departments.

Steven Gadzinski is the son of Timothy and Karen Gadzinski of Fowlerville and a graduate of Fowlerville High School.  Albion College, located in south central Michigan, offers the unique blend of a classic liberal arts curriculum with a focus on professional preparation in law, medicine, education, management and the sciences.

 

ARMY PRIVATE COMPLETES COURSE

Army Pvt. Michael A. Garrett has completed the Warrior Transition Course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

The course teaches basic skills necessary for integration into the Army for all prior service members to fully prepare them for Advanced Individual Training or on to their first assignment.

Soldiers undergo much of the same training developed in basic combat training, except it is developed in a program of instruction that lasts five weeks instead of nine. To complete the course, soldiers must complete the Army Physical Fitness Test, with a minimum of 60 points in each event, M-16 weapon qualification, tactical foot marches, tactical field and situational training, and the land navigation course.

He is the son of Gary L. and Marie K. Garrett of Levering Road, Cross Village, Mich.,

His wife, Elizabeth, is the daughter of George H. Bufford of Phoenix, Ariz., and Barbara A. Thacker of Fowlerville, Mich. Garrett is a 1986 graduate of Milford High School, Mich.


TIFFANY FRIEDRICH GRADUATES FROM SPRING ARBOR

Tiffany Friedrich will be graduating from Spring Arbor University with a Master’s Degree in Counseling. She graduated from Fowlerville High School in 2004.

Her parents are Barbara and Richard Friedrich of Fowlerville. Tiffany plans on working as a mental health therapist near Port Huron, MI.


SAM CHAMPAGNE NAMED TO CALVIN COLLEGE DEAN'S LIST

Calvin College has announced, Sam Champagne of Fowlerville, was named to the Dean’s List. To earn a spot on the Dean’s List at Calvin requires that a student maintain a 3.5 grade point average for the semester and have a 3.3 cumulative grade point average.

Sam Champagne is a 2009 graduate of Fowlerville High School. He is majoring in Political Science.

Calvin College was established in 1876 in Grand Rapids. It has an enrollment of 4,092 students.


JEANNE VAN GILDER RECOGNIZED AT U OF M RESERVE OFFICER CEREMONY

Webberville resident Jeanne Van Gilder was recognized at the University of Michigan Reserve Officer Training Corps Tri-Service Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, April 6. She was one of only four NROTC freshmen included in the field of 120 award recipients for the academic year.

Van Gilder was presented with the Military Order of the World Wars Award of Merit, given for the demonstration of exemplary drive to serve the United States Military and most improvement in diligent and outstanding accomplishments for the year. The award recognizes midshipmen and cadets in Air Force, Army and Navy ROTC programs.


CYNTHIA VENTURA GRADUATES FROM BASIC TRAINING

Air Force Airman Cynthia D. Ventura graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

She is the daughter of John and Cynthia Ventura of Fowlerville. Ventura is a 2009 graduate of Fowlerville High School.


JARROD KIRBY GRADUATES FROM BASIC TRAINING

Jarrod Kirby, son of Tish and Bob Kirby of Fowlerville, earned his GED and graduated from basic training on October 23, 2009 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He is currently at AIT School at Fort Lee, Virginia.

We feel blessed and very proud to call him our son. God bless and keep safe all of our soldiers fighting for our country.

 

PHILLIP OGDEN PROMOTED TO STAFF SERGEANT

Phillip Ogden received his promotion to Staff Sergeant (E-6) on November 7, 2009. The ceremony took place at his base in Florida at Camp Blanding. His parents, William (Butch) and Peggy Ogden were in attendance.

Phillip is a graduate of Fowlerville High School. He is married to Mary and they reside in Florida. Both he and his wife are members of the National Guard in Florida.

Phil has been in the National Guard for 13 years and his wife Mary has been in the National Guard for 11 years. He is employed by the State of Florida.


WILLIAMSTON YOUTH JOINS NAVAL SEA CADET CORPS

The Commanding Officer of the United States Division of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, has announced the acceptance of Christopher Dixon of Williamston into the program. Christopher is the son of Edward and Kristina Dixon.

The Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a federally chartered youth training organization which helps youth, ages 14-17, to explore careers in the Navy and Coast Guard ashore and afloat. Providing positive role models for young adults, the Naval Sea Cadet Corps objectives are to develop good citizenship, self-discipline, a greater sense of responsibility and leadership skills.

The program is open to all young Americans regardless of race, color, creed or sex.


RUSSELL BIGOS JOINS MICHIGAN NATIONAL GUARD

Russell Bigos of Fowlerville has joined the 1462nd Transportation Company, Michigan Army National Guard and is assigned as a Motor Transport Operator.

PV2 Bigos is a Fowlerville High School graduate.

Bigos attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon completion, Bigos remained at Fort Leonard Wood where he was trained as a Motor Transport Operator.

Bigos is the son of Bruce and Elly Bigos of Fowlerville.


AARON McGILL NAMED TO DEAN'S LIST AT NORTHWESTERN OHIO UNIVERSITY

The University of Northwestern Ohio is proud to acknowledge that Aaron G. McGill of Fowlerville has made the Dean’s List for the October 2009 session. He is enrolled in the College of Technologies.

Full-time students must receive a grade point average of 3.5 or better to be named to the Dean’s List.

 

MARK BAUBY GRADUATES FROM BASIC TRAINING


Private Mark Bauby became airborne qualified as a paratrooper, graduating from Airborne School in Fort Benning, Georgia on November 2. Private Bauby received the advanced airborne training after completion of Army Basis Training and Advanced Individual Training for infantry.

Private Bauby has enlisted for four years of active duty with the Army. He has been assigned to the 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Baumholder, Germany from where deployments will occur. Private Bauby recently enjoyed a 10-day leave in Fowlerville with family and friends before leaving for Germany on November 15.

Bauby is the son of Paul and Donna Bauby of Fowlerville and a 2008 graduate of Fowlerville High School.

During the nine weeks of basic combat training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid skills, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experienced use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

The Advanced Individual Training course is designed to train infantry soldiers to perform reconnaissance operations; employ, fire and recover anti-personnel and anti-tank mines; locate and neutralize land mines and operate target and sight equipment; operate and maintain communications equipment and radio networks; construct field firing aids for infantry weapons; and perform infantry combat exercises and dismounted battle drills, which includes survival procedures in a nuclear, biological or chemical contaminated area.

 

JOE SHOWERMAN NAMED TO CENTRAL MICHIGAN HONORS LIST

Central Michigan University named Joseph Showerman, from Webberville, to the summer honors list.  Joseph is listed as being a senior at CMU.

Students named to the list must earn 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) and higher grade point averages.  Summer session ended in August.

MOLLY A. DOWNING GRADUATES FROM GRAND VALLY STATE UNIVERSITY

Molly A. Downing graduated from Grand Valley State University with her master’s degree in April 2009. Downing received a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies degree. She is the daughter of Lynn and Charnell Downing and a graduate of Fowlerville High School.

Grand Valley is dedicated to providing a rich learning environment for students, offering a wide range of majors and hands-on research opportunities. CMU ANNOUNCE SUMMER GRADUATES
Central Michigan University, located in Mt. Pleasant, is pleased to announce the summer graduates from this area.

Graduating with a MS degree is Don Laird of Webberville.

Graduates from the Williamston area include: Leighanne Larson, with an MS degree; Leslie Little, with a BSBA degree; Laura McGarvey, with a BAA degree and Kelly Stenzel with an MA degree.

David Leland has graduated from basic training in the U.S. Marines at Parris Island, South Carolina. He will begin further training at the School of Infantry at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina and also attend the MOS School Aviation Logistics.

David is married to Heather (Robertson) of Webberville. They have a son, Dayton. Parents are Christopher and Deri Leland of Webberville and Krista Culp of California.

He is a 2003 graduate of Webberville High School.

Fowlerville man joins Michigan National Guard PDF Print E-mail

Wesley E Miesler of Fowlerville has joined Battery C, 1st Battalion, 182nd Field Artillery, Michigan Army National Guard and is assigned as a MLRS Crewmember.

 PFC Miesler is a 2009 Fowlerville High School graduate.

 Miesler attended basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in 2008. Upon graduation from high school, Miesler was sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he was trained as a MLRS Crewmember and graduated on September 3, 2009.

 Miesler is the son of Eric and Tracy Miesler of Fowlerville and Kevin Ethridge of Bath. 

 
David Barry graduates from Basic Combat Training PDF Print E-mail

 Army Pfc. David Berry has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma.

 During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

 He is the son of Penny and Dave Berry of Fowlerville.

 Berry is a 2004 graduate of Fowlerville High School.
