Brighton church to hold benefit dinner on Feb. 17 PDF Print E-mail

An elegant four-course dinner will be presented to benefit the St. George Food Pantry on Friday, February 17 from 6 to 9 pm.

This special event is being held at the St. George Lutheran Church, 803 W. Main Street in Brighton. Childcare will be available for the evening. Tickets are $25 per guest or two for $40. The menu will include appetizers, salad, and entrée of lemon chicken breast with a lemon caper sauce, fresh asparagus, redskin potatoes, and dessert.

Simple Fresh Market of Brighton is sponsoring this event.  Please call (810) 333-1349 for dinner information or to purchase tickets. Reservations are required for the evening dinner.

Heart of the Shepherd Lutheran Church hosting workshop PDF Print E-mail

Heart of the Shepherd Lutheran Church is hosting a free workshop called “Identity Theft:  What You Need to Know”.  This 60-minute workshop will be held Saturday, February 11 at 10:00 am and will feature speakers from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and the Michigan State Police. A commercial shredding service will be available to professionally destroy up to 10 lbs. of documents per attendee at no charge.

Heart of the Shepherd Church is located at 228 N. Burkhart Road in Howell, just south of 1-96, off Exit 133.

Swan for Life shows support for local cancer patients PDF Print E-mail

Swan for Life, a local organization providing support to the cancer communities of Oakland and Lapeer counties, is preparing for upcoming events in support of those who have conquered their battle with cancer.  “At Swan for Life, we are committed to help people who have been touched by cancer,” says Dr. Farid Fata, M.D., F.A.C.P., founder of Swan for Life Cancer Foundation.  “Our goal is to provide hope, dignity, and a positive outlook to cancer patients, families, and survivors.  While medicine is an important aspect in overcoming cancer, it is the support and care of others that gives one the strength to fight through and defeat it.”

Win a prize at the Webberville Library PDF Print E-mail

Visitors to the Webberville Library can win prizes by coming to the Library and completing an entry for a drawing.  Several winners of Valentine candy and stuffed bears will be selected for this drawing sponsored by Friends of the Webberville Library.

Entries will be accepted from Wednesday, February 1st until Thursday, February 9th at 6:00 p.m. One entry per visit.

 

 
American Legion Post 141 hosting Valentine’s party on February 11 PDF Print E-mail

The American Legion Post 141 is hosting a Valentine’s party on Saturday, February 11 from 8 pm until midnight.

The event features a couple’s karaoke contest. Bring your partner and sing a song! Cost is a $5 entry fee per couple. The winning couple will receive a cash prize. The couples contest begins at 10 pm.

HURON MEADOWS METROPARK SKI OUTING: Join the Crossroads Group of the Sierra Club for an afternoon of cross country skiing at Huron Meadows MetroPark on Sunday, February 12 to enjoy miles of groomed trails on the golf course and through the woods. Groomed skate ski trails, heated warming shelter and restrooms are also available. Members, nonmembers, novices and expert Nordic skiers are welcome. This outing is free except for the MetroPark entry fee. We’ll meet at the MetroPark Ski Center at 1 PM. ANNUAL WINTER PADDLE OUTING: Join the Crossroads Group of the Sierra Club on Sunday, February 26 at Noon for their Annual Winter Paddle down the Huron River. This popular two-hour paddle launches below the Kent Lake dam in Island Lake State Recreation Area and takes out at the Placeway Bridge Site where a warm fire and warm refreshments are served. This outing is free except for the State Park entry fee. Members and nonmembers are welcome. This is a cold weather paddle and PFD’s and appropriate outerwear are required for all paddlers and subject to inspection. Bring extra clothing in a “dry bag”. No young children or pets are allowed on this outing.
