Howell Library dedicates memorial to Martha McKenzie PDF Print E-mail

In October of 2008, the Howell Carnegie District Library lost a dear, long-time staff member, Martha McKenzie.  Martha was not only well-loved by library patrons, but was also recognized for her leadership and involvement in many community events in Howell over the years.  “Martha had a heart of gold and so willingly gave her time as a volunteer in many local organizations,” says Kathleen Zaenger, Director of the Howell Library.  After her passing, the library was overwhelmed by the outpouring of community support and requests to make a donation in her memory.  With the McKenzie family’s blessing, funds donated in memory of Martha were specifically allocated to acquire an appropriate memorial that expressed her love for the library.

A beautiful bronze sculpture of children reading on a bench was selected and installed at the base of the steps at the Howell Library’s front entrance. An engraved plaque accompanies the piece.
