Compiled by Steve Horton Both Gladiator Teams Topple Haslett—Coach Glenn Arnold’s Varsity basketball team and Coach Chuck Brigham’s JV Team won their ball games handily at Haslett last Friday evening. The Varsity won 62-40 and the JVs came out on top of a 57 to 36 score. Ken Curtis was high point man with 12 points for the varsity, followed by Darrold Hoyland and Gordie Hetrick with 11 points each, and John Douglass with 9. The Gladiators now lead the Ingham County League as Dansville lost their first league game to the Leslie Blackhawks. For the JVs, Ron Sober was the high-point scorer with 16 points, followed by Jon Finlan with 15 and Pete Huskisson with 13. * * * Methodist Boys Dump Okemos Team—The Fowlerville Methodist Basketball team defeated Okemos Community Church team 31-12 at the YMCA in Lansing. Scoring for Fowlerville were Larry Elliott 15, Tom Tannar 9, Don Grill 5, and Rick Kreeger, 2. Other team members are Chuck Lepard, Duane Herbert, and Jim McNamara. The team is coached by Robert Mohre.

Doris (Copeland) Rehyl Named to Head Drive—Mrs. Doris (Copeland) Rehyl was named chairman of the 1962 Mothers’ March for Dimes in the Fowlerville Area in the continuing fight against birth defects, arthritis and polio. Sponsored by the Child Study Club, Mothers will march on Jan. 29. Anyone is welcome to help. You do not need to b e a member of the club. Contact Mrs. Frank Utter or Mrs. Irwin Glover if you wish to assist. * * * Bank Directors Elected—Cecil Lepard was elected to the Board of Directors of the Community State Bank at the annual meeting on Jan. 16. Mr. Lepard has been an automobile dealer in Fowlerville for 25 years and has been chairman of many civic projects. Other directors re-elected to the bank board were George Kirkland, J.J. Hendren, Alex Tait, C.C. Fenton, George R. Tait, Jr., Kenneth Judd, and L.C. Liverance. * * * Lutherans’ Elect New Leaders for Local Church—Newly elected leaders of St. John Lutheran Church in Fowlerville were installed in their respective offices at the worship service last Sunday. Those providing the leadership for the Lutheran Church Women will be: Mrs. Walter Krebs, president; Mrs. Raymond Maleitzke, vice-president; Mrs. Gerald Kunde, secretary; Mrs. Eldor Windhorn, treasurer; Mrs. Garland Kelly, secretary of Stewardship; and Mrs. Clinton Skym, secretary of Education. The Men’s Brotherhood officers installed were: Walter Maleitzke, president; Dick McKenzie, vice-president; Bill Northrop, secretary; and Fred Schneider, treasurer. In addition, Bill Schneider was installed as the newly appointed financial secretary of the Sunday school. Newly elected councilmen installed before the congregation were: Maurice Bohm, trustee; Clinton Skym, Deacon; Gilbert Rossetter, Financial Secretary; and Lyle Vogt, Treasurer. * * * Northwest Soil Conservation District Directors for 1962 elected at the annual meeting are Maurice Kingsley, Harry Kreeger, Frank Herbert, Clarence Earl, and Ted Dey. * * * Varsity Cagers Feted at Elm’s Restaurant—The Fowlerville Varsity Basketball squad, Coaches Glenn Arnold, Charles Brigham and Clem Spillane, and Review Sports Editor Stirling ‘Doug’ Douglass enjoyed a fine chicken dinner at the Elm’s Restaurant last Thursday evening, compliments of Frank Norman who owns and operates the establishment on North Grand Avenue. Also invited and taking a photo of the event was ‘Fowlerville Review’ co-owner Richard Rudnicki. The Elm’s is displaying a large bulletin board of mounted photos of the squad as a group and in action at the various games played this season. (Note: Elm’s Restaurant was located in the south half of the current Lucky’s Pub.)
