The music of the band…the sound of tractors…and the taste of an ox burger. Yes Firemen’s Field Days has passed and I miss it already. I just love the ox roast. It starts my favorite time of year. Field Days has changed over the years but it’s still fun. When I was a kid Main St would be shut down and carnival rides would be set up. I lived right around the corner from the fair and I would walk home from school through the rides being set up and get so excited!! From my front porch I could always hear the generators running from the rides and people laughing and see the shadows from the scrambler or ferris wheel. My favorite memory from the old ox roast was the sweet street dance right next to the fire hall. Now the ox roast is much smaller but my kids don’t know the difference. Sure there were only 4 cars in the car show and there were no rides. The ox burgers and soup were still delicious and I got to see lots of people who I hadn’t seen since last year or longer! The FFA farm toy show was awesome with neat displays and the tractor pulls went on as usual. The band marching in the parade sounded great even though they were so small. The FFA bbq chicken was delicious this year and kiddie pedal pull had a ton of kids in it! The bingo tent was full and the craft barn too. Don’t forget the beer barn … I had a blast both nights!! I am happy to say that my kids and I had just as much fun as I used to at the ox roast! I’m glad to not have to spend a fortune on rides. It’s all about community after all right?
The next event in Webberville is the First Annual Fall Fest. This is a continuation of the ox roast and started to keep people excited and coming to Webberville. I guess long ago there used to be a corn fest with the same idea. I will be a vendor at the fall fest with my Creative Memories goodies. It should be fun. It is Oct 24th in downtown Webberville. I have used these last few weeks to unscramble my brain. All my boys are in school ALL day. That glorious yellow beast comes rumbling up to my house at 6:50 am and there they go… 4 little soldiers sleepy-eyed and really not awake trot on that bus and they don’t get home until 4:00. This is my reward for surviving summer. Don’t get me wrong – I feel awful that my kids have to ride a bus for almost 2 hours a day – but if that’s the worst thing they have to do, I’m ok with it! My handsome boys were all ready for school with their bright white no show socks, Kleenex boxes, highlighters, sweet awesome folders they picked out themselves, $9 Sketchers from Wal-Mart, and everything else on the list. I am such a picture taker/ scrapbooker ...every year I get a picture of each kid with their school supplies around them and also a picture of them standing in front of my school flag. This year Ez and Leo said they were too old for the school supply picture but I told them they will ALWAYS have a first day of school picture!! I am officially the parent of a middle school student. Ezra is literally THE shortest kid in basically the whole high school building. Everyone is towering over him but at home he seems too big to us! He is running for class president and prepared his speech over the weekend. He is a little nervous about being in the high school building and also being much smaller than everyone else! He made 3 rules for himself to avoid wedgies. 1: always allow room for the older kids in the hall 2: never use the bathroom when anyone else is in there 3: watch where you are going at all times.
Here’s a little story about what happened this weekend: Ezra was riding in the front of our cousin’s truck and they pulled into the ox roast. The cop standing in the parking lot came over and asked my cousin if he had a little kid in the front of his truck! “No – he’s 90 lbs and 12!” The cop asked Ezra to come around the truck and then said … ok never mind!! The last time I took my kids to Meijer, Oscar wanted to ride 'Sandy the Pony'. I told him he was probably too big but of course he got on anyway. He made such a spectacle of himself people were stopping to watch. He’s holding on with one hand, leaning all the way back with the other arm out like he’s riding a bull. Oh yeah .. he’s yelling “whoa slow down girl!” This past Friday was Webberville’s homecoming. Yeah! Oscar was chosen to be the crown bearer! I have never had a crown bearer before so we couldn't wait to see him. He was fitted for his tux and was begging for a green vest and tie. He also wanted an all white suit. I had to tell the guy at Baryames to not offer him a white tux. Seriously, could you see that? The ceremony is after the football parade and game. A 7 year old with a white/grass strain covered tux in all the official pictures!! He settled for a white vest and white tie and a blue thingy sticking out of the pocket. Leo was also chosen to be on the float for the Elementary boosters (my niece Stella was too) One kid from each class was chosen. Also Ezra was marching in the parade with my sister Mo. It promised to be fun parade and game I’ll leave you with this vision – as I was calling tds to pay my bill Daisy was yelling something and the stupid annoying voice system was saying “what was that?” Gotta love the voice systems! “Grant me patience to deal with my blessings!” Bye for now!
