Rats and the health department PDF Print E-mail

Halloween was great this year as usual. I love to see my kids all dressed up and excited to go trick-or-treating…waiting patiently as I take a picture of each of them in front of our pumpkins and then of course a group shot. My 12 year old was a good sport. He seems to be at the in-between stage. He dressed up as Patrick Star but when we got into town I got the feeling he wanted to be more like Freddie Crougar. I knew it was our last year to all go trick-or-treating together and I also know I’m lucky he still wanted to in 7th grade!

The Fall Fest was great considering the weather was so gosh darn golly cold. I would love to insert other words here but I won’tJ There were lots of vendors, (including me who was able to squeeze upstairs in a cozy warm corner), and lots of neat activities for kids and families to do. I think it is a great event to finish off the fall festivities and I’m glad to have something held downtown again like the ox roast used to be.

We had a great birthday party for Miss Daisy. Her favorite movie is Ratatouille so we had a Ratatouille theme party for her. Carla made an adorable cake with Remy on top of a cheese wheel. She tried out fondant and Daisy ate too much of it...half of Remy in fact. I had a red checkered tablecloth with little toy soup pots, ladles, etc on the table and since it was so close to Halloween I was able to find little rubber mice and rats to put all through the pots and pans. We also had a cheese tray with rats on it and little wooden spoons too and rat cupcakes also. It turned out adorable! Daisy loved it and after we sang Happy Birthday to her she asks “can we do that again?” It was so cute.

The funniest thing about the Ratatouille party was the next day. I forgot the health department was coming out to test our water, well and septic for the daycare license I am applying for. I was really embarrassed when he had to ask me to move the dirty dishes so he could get to the faucet. I look over and realized that there was little rubber rats covered in frosting all over the counter. One of the boys also stacked up about 5 or so rats on top of a cupcake next to the sink. The guy was a good sport when I asked him if he’s ever been to a house with this many rats on the kitchen counter! He just kind of laughed and I kind of wanted to die.

Go Spartans! My oldest boys started basketball this week. Ezra plays his first sport through the school instead of rec. That means bus rides, lots of practices, eligibility, dressing up for game days. He was so cute and middle school-like when he was dressing up for school. His khaki dress pants were ill-fitting and his sweater was awkward but he couldn’t be more excited. Later that night he also informed me his dress pants ripped and he walked around all day in school with a hole in the crotch. He said no one noticed but he did tell some of his friends. You’ve got to laugh at yourself first!

Leo started 5th grade basketball and loves it. He’s settling into 5th grade but there is something that happens in 5th grade. They just seem to change more noticeably. It’s really the start of change. Oscar and Abe love 2nd and 1st grades. They are both bucketfillers and good friends. Oscar is looking forward to real bats coming to his classroom this week and Abe just love everything about school. He and his cousin have a secret handshake during recess that they learned from The Electric Company. The teachers at the school are just wonderful and Joe and I are truly blessed to have such awesome kids. Every day I am aware of this.

I’ll leave you with this vision – Leo has rigged up a contraption that turns off his bedroom light for him after he’s in bed. It involves a string and a Monster tab woven through his bedroom light. I hear it actually works! You wouldn’t want to get out of your bed like a sucker! I’ve learned already to just shut that bedroom door.

“Grant me patience to deal with my blessings!”

Bye for now!
